The Taghva Family Experiential Learning Fund
Many of my patients have asked how they can say “thank you.” While your trust and partnership in care are more than enough, I wanted to create a way for that gratitude to pay it forward.
That’s why I established the Taghva Family Experiential Learning Fund at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
As a medical student at Hopkins, I was fortunate to receive summer funding that allowed me to explore both the arts and science: I studied music at the Peabody Conservatory and also began my early research in functional neurosurgery and deep brain stimulation. That experience shaped the physician I’ve become—one who values creativity, balance, and compassion in medicine.
This fund helps current Hopkins medical students do the same. Each summer, it supports a student in pursuing meaningful experiential learning outside the classroom—whether through music, research, or other creative or humanistic exploration.
In lieu of gifts or thank-you notes, I now direct birthday gifts and select patient donations toward this fund. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps grow the next generation of thoughtful, well-rounded physicians. Your gift supports medical students at a time when humanity and curiosity in medicine matter more than ever.
With appreciation,
Alexander Taghva, MD
